What did you come out as? : Gay
What other words would you use to describe yourself? : I am by most descriptions, an average middle aged businessman. Being gay does not define me, but I don’t hide from it…too much.
How old were you when you first realised your identity? : mid 20’s
How old were you when you first told someone? : early 40’s
Did you plan it? If so, how? : Not really planned, it just came out in a conversation with a friend
What made you choose that person to tell? : We had been friends for a good while. I had some thoughts that she was a lesbian. I knew she was interested in gay issues, so I simply told her
Can you remember exactly what you said? : I told here about meeting a guy and that I guessed I could finally admit I was gay.
How did you feel? : Afraid of the consequences, but I felt honest for perhaps the first time.
What was the person’s reaction? : Very supportive and shortly she came out to me as a lesbian
What did they say? : I don’t really recall, but it was quite affirming and positive.
What was your relationship with the person like afterwards? : We continue to be friends and share the stories of our lives as lgbt people.

What does being out mean to you? : LIving life honestly..as who I am and being with the type of people I want to be with.
What does the concept of the closet mean to you? : Hiding your identity from others…and from yourself
What advice would you give someone wanting to come out? : Be sure you feel safe with the people you tell.
If you could do it all again, would you do it any differently? If so, how? : I would have accepted being gay years before I did
