What did you come out as? : Gay
What other words would you use to describe yourself? : Introvertive Kid
How old were you when you first realised your identity? : About 8
How old were you when you first told someone? : 15
Did you plan it? If so, how? : I didn’t really plan it,but when I realized I was going to I did plan on how I was going to let them know.
What made you choose that person to tell? : Well to me it seems like your never really out until you tell a close family member so I guess that’s why
Can you remember exactly what you said? : Something along the lines of “I don’t want you to be mad at me, but I think I’m gay”
How did you feel? : I felt kinda lifetime-ish at first lol, because there was crying involved. The tears were rehearsed though, I knew the only way I could get it out was to have her feeling sorry for me Thus the tears lol (sad but true)
What was the person’s reaction? : Well she (my mother) said she kinda thought so, and she was just like… idk… it was like she really felt sorry for me, as if it were something tragic like I had just told her I had cancer
What did they say? : she said something along the lines of “It’s ok, just keep praying and everything will be ok” lol and what was really funny was her right after question which was “you don’t want a sex change do you?”
What was your relationship with the person like afterwards? : It’s pretty much ok, but if the subject ever comes up it’s kinda like a sore spot, she’ll shy away from it
What’s it like now? : It’s ok I guess we really don’t talk about it still but not in a bad way… idk lol
If you’ve experienced homophobia etc, please give an example. : Just sort of in a teasing way, from my older sibling, but nothing serious (Yet)
Since coming out how out are you at school? : not_out
Since coming out, how “out” are you at work? : not_applicable
Since coming out, how “out” are you with family? : not_out
Since coming out, how “out” are you with your friends? : not_out
What does being out mean to you? : I don’t really know yet. I mean I’ve only come out to my mother,one of my siblings,and a not so close friend and her boyfriend. I haven’t really experienced what it means to be “Out” yet
What differences, if any, did your cultural background make to your experience of coming out? : I don’t think it really made a difference, now if and when I move it on down th family tree…then we’ll see lol
What does the concept of the closet mean to you? : Being in the closet is basically hiding or being afraid. Not being secure or confident enough to be who you are no matter who’s looking.
What advice would you give someone wanting to come out? : Just do it lol, the longer you wait the harder it gets. If you’re ok with what you are, you shouldn’t let others stop you from being that person.
If you could do it all again, would you do it any differently? If so, how? : Yes lol I would sit my mother down in a more mature way, instead of fake crying for her sympathy lol
Anything you want to add? : I’m also a virgin…yes a full virgin, it seems like everyone thinks for there to be that official stamp of gayness you have to have had sex. Well I haven’t,but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m a lady lover lol. I’m like the nerds in school who never see any action,but they still know what they want when the time comes. No one questions their sexuality (well…maybe they do lol)
