Did you plan it? If so, how? : Yes, I did. I went and told a friend close to me that I was sure would not tell anyone. Also, I used the term “bisexual” because its easier to take back incase something happens. lol.
What made you choose that person to tell? : I found a Mariah Carey CD in his locker.
Can you remember exactly what you said? : “I’m bi, can you pass the gravy?”
How did you feel? : Scared but optimistic.
What was the person’s reaction? : “It’s obvious”
What did they say? : They were really nice and consoled me and made me feel better.
What was your relationship with the person like afterwards? : Friends for 18 years now.
What’s it like now? : Fabulous. I am going to see them soon and chill.

What were peoples’ reactions? : Most of them asked to go shopping with me.

What does being out mean to you? : Liberation, freedom and the right to be discriminated against by your own people.
What differences, if any, did your cultural background make to your experience of coming out? : I can write a thesis on this.
What does the concept of the closet mean to you? : It’s been 9 years now. I forgot. But, I know I don’t want to be there.
What advice would you give someone wanting to come out? : Do it in style. Not loafers.
If you could do it all again, would you do it any differently? If so, how? : Yes, earlier and to more people.
Anything you want to add? : There’s not one way to come out. Everyone has to do it at their own pace. I have been with alot of people since the come out. To me, if someone wouldn’t love you when you come out, they never loved you anyway. So, its a win win situation.
