How old were you when you first realised your identity? : 10
How old were you when you first told someone? : 11
Did you plan it? If so, how? : not really.
What made you choose that person to tell? : she was a good friend
Can you remember exactly what you said? : she first told me she was bi then i said omg i’m so glad you told me that i am too.
How did you feel? : absolutly wonderful
What was the person’s reaction? : she was shocked i didn’t know she was gay. and then very supportive of me and gave a ton of confidence
What did they say? : she asked questions: Since when? How did you know? Who else have you told?
What was your relationship with the person like afterwards? : we got really close and actually dated for a little while.
What’s it like now? : not dating but even closer and best friends
If you’ve been outed unwillingly, who did it? : a “friend” i trusted. we are not friends any more.
What happened? : she told most of the whole school and at that time i was so scared. but now i could care less. i want people to know cause its who i am.
What were peoples’ reactions? : some very supportive and some were wierded out you could say.
If you’ve experienced homophobia etc, please give an example. : last year i met this girl and we became the BEST of best friend and did everything together! so by the end of the year i came out to her and she seemed fine with it. then when i told her i was actually dating a girl she ignored me for two weeks straight. finally she started talking againg and the subject of girls would come up and she wouldn’t talk to me for a month. i tried fixing things but now that school has started again and she wont even look at me or say one thing. She actually told one of our mutual friends that i got too wierd over the summer.
Since coming out how out are you at school? : only_friends
Since coming out, how “out” are you at work? : not_applicable
Since coming out, how “out” are you with family? : all_out
Since coming out, how “out” are you with your friends? : all_out
What does being out mean to you? : it means everything. cause my last friend that i hid it from hurt me really bad when i came out and it is still killing me when i think about it. some people will act totally different to you if your gay which is not right.
What differences, if any, did your cultural background make to your experience of coming out? : none
What does the concept of the closet mean to you? : it is a place where i had no self confidence and was forcing myself to be something i wasn’t.
What advice would you give someone wanting to come out? : Peoples opinions about you REALLY dont matter. “Those who mind dont matter, and those who matter dont mind.” at first came up with stories about ex girlfriends and its a great way tell people
If you could do it all again, would you do it any differently? If so, how? : YES! dont pretend to like someone just to not hurt their feelings.
Anything you want to add? : at first it seemed to go really slow where like i couldn’t find anybody. then in like a span of 4 months everything just came out. also IF you want to find someone you have to be honest with yourself and others don’t hide it.
