What did you come out as? : Gay
What other words would you use to describe yourself? : I am a nice, easy going person and real man.
How old were you when you first realised your identity? : 5 years old
How old were you when you first told someone? : 16 years old
Did you plan it? If so, how? : I didn't plan I just wanted to share who I was with my best high school friend so it came natural and spontaneous.
What made you choose that person to tell? : Because we were very close friends.
Can you remember exactly what you said? : I remenber I wrote to him on a piece of roll paper I AM GAY.
How did you feel? : I felt so free and comfortable but at the same time I was a little scared.
What was the person’s reaction? : He was very supportive.
What did they say? : He didn't say too much, he supported me.
What was your relationship with the person like afterwards? : Still we are the best friends after 23 years.
What’s it like now? : Then I came out to a friend and she listened to me but I was a little confused I wanted to live a gay life so I talked with another friend and he was confused too. So after my college graduation I moved to the big city because of a good job and they found out I was gay but they were so cool and nice. Later at 2001 after to break up with my first boyfriend so I visited my parents and I told them. They were shocked but supported me and since then all was good for us. I introduce them my ex partner and they loved him very much.
If you’ve experienced homophobia etc, please give an example. : I was fired because of my sexual orientation from the private university where I was teaching and it was sad because for first time in my life I felt what is to be humiliated and I don't wish that on anyone.

What does being out mean to you? : Being out was a challenge that I took to be who I am and live as I want without fear.
What differences, if any, did your cultural background make to your experience of coming out? : Peru is a gay friendly country for foreigners, but society still has issues and certain homophobia and intolerance of the unknown.
What does the concept of the closet mean to you? : It means to me; fight for the gay rights and speak out to make a better world.
What advice would you give someone wanting to come out? : He or she doesn't need to rush, just to think and be careful at first how you will come out and go slow and step by step remembering they will come out with you and in certain way need to be educated too.
If you could do it all again, would you do it any differently? If so, how? : Would do the same.
